Charities/Royalty Contributions

There is an old Irish proverb that says, "It is in the shelter of each other that people live." As of December 2017, over 40 non-profit charities have benefited yearly from the book advances and royalties for Firebird and The Lost Concerto, including Imagination Library, First Book, and Rainbow Therapeutic Riding. For the last 20 years, grants have been awarded by my Sundial Foundation to worthy organizations that support our under-served families—both locally and nationally. So, if you've bought one of my books, thank you for helping to make a difference.

As of January 2018, I have established a new family fund—the Helaine and Ronald Mario Fund—which will continue Sundial's work with the addition of royalties from my third novel, Dark Rhapsody. The mission of the fund is, in Gandhi's words, to "Be the change you wish to see in the world." So we will continue to reach out to our most vulnerable women, children and families by supporting children's reading programs, inner city food banks, education, health, shelter, child protection, the arts and economic development, with an emphasis on programs that promote dignity, independence and safety, and combat poverty, hunger, sickness and homelessness.

From 1998 to the present, Sundial Foundation—and now the Helaine and Ronald Mario Fund—has given more than one half million dollars to families in need. The non-profit organizations supported by the foundation include those listed below.
